Control of Rats

For most people, the discovery of or signs of rats in your home or at your place of work is a terrifying experience, and there are many reasons why you should contact a professional rat exterminator as a matter of urgency to get rid of them as quickly as possible before a major infestation takes hold.

In the UK there are two species of rat that require professional pest control services - Norway Rat, (also known as the brown rat or sewer rat), and the Black Rat.

The Norway rat is the most common species of these rodents and are found all over the world existing equally in rural, urban and suburban areas. The brown rat is of the most concern due to its destructive nature and the health risks they pose to humans and domestic pets and there are a number of diseases associated with rats.

The Norway rat is the only species in the UK to be associated with drains and sewer systems which offer access points to our properties. Experts in burrowing, the brown rat will make short work of entering your property by finding breeches, or holes, in the sewer systems beneath our homes and places of work by tunnelling underground and then into the cavity walls of your home. Often, the first signs of a rat infestation in your home or at your place of work is indicated by scratching or scurrying sounds in your wall, under floors or in your loft space.

At Country Life Pest Control we offer professional rat control solutions and rat extermination for homes and businesses. We will get rid of a rat infestation and advise you of measure that can be taken to prevent re-infestation.

Rat problems in your home

Rats are considered to be of commensal nature which translated means ‘at man’s table,’ which means mans activity provide these rodents with all they require to thrive and survive e.g. warmth, shelter, water and food.

Our homes and places of work offer rats all of the above, including a place to build a nest, and as is the case with mice, rats breed fast which means two soon becomes a major infestation, which is why you should call us as soon as you have noticed or believe you have noticed signs of rats.

Rats are nocturnal by nature and will happily travel in and out of our properties in search of food. Having strong teeth and jaws, rats can easily access your kitchen and food storage areas by gnawing through skirting boards, studded walls and even doors to gain to access.

Across the UK, Rats are responsible for hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage to properties every year as they can chew through most building materials, including, plastic, wood, breeze blocks, aluminium sheeting, plastic pipework and even some glass.

Generally, damage caused by rodents is not covered by home or business insurance policies. Mice and rat infestations are considered matters of home maintenance with the onus being on the home or business owner to pay for repairs or pest control services. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon after one rat infestation for another one to follow. Due to the burrowing nature of rats, the easy access offered into our properties via old sewer systems and the tunnels left behind by previous unwanted visitors, makes it is almost impossible to proof against them. It really is only a matter of time before new rats locate the breeches found in the sewage system and will be more than happy to use existing tunnels leading into our homes where a new infestation takes hold. Country Life Pest Control now offers our exclusive Residential Pest Plan 365 or for businesses our Business Pest Plan 365 program to ensure that future problems are taken care of before any such infestation occurs, taking care of your most valued assets 365 days of the year.
